at St. Thomas (except where
noted*)
September Meeting Round-up
At our October
meeting, we will be showing pictures taken during our
field trip to St. John's Episcopal Church last Sunday
afternoon. We had good attendance, but missed those of
you who did not attend. For those who did not go on the
trip we would still like for you to show some of your
work at the meeting.. Please use J-PEG format, limit you
showing to 5 pictures and have them placed either on a
c/d or thumb drive. The meeting will last until 4:00pm.
Please be thinking who you might like to have as a
speaker for the November meeting. Let me have your
thoughts by return mail or at the October meeting.

August Meeting Round-up
For those of you who missed it we had a
great August meeting on the 2nd. Bruce O'Donnell gave a
talk regarding his experience, philosophy and technique
in the art of picture taking . Then, we exhibited the
pictures some members had taken of the St. Thomas chapel
and Bluff Drive. Remember, this was our homework
assigned at the July meeting of the club.
The September meeting will be on September 13th rather
than the 6th since the 6th is Labor Day. September is
our field trip and the members voted to go downtown to
photograph some of the squares. We will make this a late
afternoon trip arriving downtown around 5 o'clock p.m.
That way we can take advantage of the late afternoon
light and make better pictures. I will get another
letter out to you later as soon as the logistics of the
trip are finalized.
Our club con tines to grow. We had 4 new members sigh up
at the last meeting. Tell your friends and family about
us. The more members we have the more we can do.
Research has told me we need a minimum of forty members
in order to have an average of twenty at each meeting.

Details regarding the Sept. field
trip: It seems that the date picked conflicts with
the St. Thomas parish picnic and so it was decided to
move it to the following Sunday, September 20th. As you
may know many of our club members are also members of
St. Thomas Episcopal Church which is also our sponsor.
We try and accommodate where we can.
We will meet at the parking lot of St. John's Episcopal
Church which is located behind the Church across
Whitaker Street. We will then proceed to the front of
the church located on Madison Square at Bull Street..
This location will provide ample subjects for our field
trip. We will have the Church, SCAD building, old drug
store building and the square If Fr. Dunbar is at home
he will unlock the Church for us to photograph. We can
also photograph the church gardens and its parish house
which was the headquarters of General Sherman in the
siege of Savannah during the civil war. This should be
more than enough to take up an hour and a half.
For those of you who do not drive the church bus will
leave from the St. Thomas parking lot about 4:50p.m.
Either Deacon Geri or I will drive but you must be on
time. For those of you who have tripods bring them with
you. For those who don't consider purchasing one as it
will greatly improve your photography.
Noel Wright and Phil Hodgkins are both experienced
members. They have agreed to help those you you less
experienced and show you how to take better pictures.
They will also help present a class in the future on
photo editing with Elements or Photoshop, but this is in
the future. First we need to take the pictures before we
edit them.
We will have our October meeting on the first Sunday in
October at 2:30p.m. and try to get back on schedule. The
October meeting will be the one where we will show the
pictures which were taken on our September field trip.
In order for everyone to have a chance to show their
pictures we will use the following format. Pictures
should be taken in JPEG. You should review your pictures
prior to the meeting and choose the 5 which you like the
most. You will be limited to these 5. When your pictures
are shown be able to describe to the other members what
you liked about your pictures and why you chose them. If
time permits other members may critique your work
pointing out what you did right or what you should be
more aware of or work on. This is not to be construed as
criticism but as a learning experience. Please have your
work placed on a thumb drive or a c/d so they can be
properly shown.
