“Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God” (Book of Common Prayer, page 422).

Couples contemplating marriage are asked to contact the priest at their earliest possible convenience.  In the Episcopal Church marriage preparation is required by canon law; it is normative that such preparation takes four to six months.

If one of more of the couple desires to be married following a divorce, the priest must obtain permission from the Bishop to solemnize the marriage.  Generally the pre-marital preparation and petition process takes six to nine months.  The Bishop will not grant permission if less than a year has transpired between the divorce(s) and the request for permission to re-marry.

It is expected that couples intending to be married at St. Thomas will be active in attendance at public worship and intentional in the giving of their time, talent and treasure for parish ministry.

Complete information and guidelines for weddings are available on the Tract Table: “The Sacrament of Marriage: Information and Guidelines.”
