    St. Thomas Thrift Store’s

    Record Sales Year

    Makes Enormous Impact

    on the Community.

A year of record sales at The Saint Thomas Thrift store will send a much needed positive ripple effect into the Savannah community.   Thanks to the support of volunteers, patrons, and people who generously made donations in 2012, the store was able to award $45,050 in grants to 42 deserving community organizations and ministries; 30 of these applicants were new grantees.  Many of the organizations that the Thrift Store supports are local such as, Heads Up Guidance Services (HUGS).  HUGS  serves the community through offering therapeutic and vocational counseling services to the disadvantaged in the Coastal Empire.  The grant awarded to HUGS by the Thrift Store is being used toward the renovation of a building at 704 Wheaton Street that will become HUGS Day Center- Savannah’s one-of-a-kind facility offering participants a wide range of services to include individual and group counseling, vocational and educational classes, therapeutic recreation, opportunities for employment, and a children’s center.  HUGS’ volunteer, Ellen Bradley, says, “It is heartwarming to witness all the good being done for HUGS’ program participants. There’s nothing more rewarding than making a positive difference in someone’s life.  I’m so impressed by our community’s outreach and generous support of HUGS’ efforts.”

Where does St. Thomas Thrift Store go from here? Only up.  “We couldn’t ask for a better group of grantees this year.  All 42 are truly remarkable and it’s rewarding for what we do at the Thrift Store to help support their missions.  It’s such a team effort- from those of us behind the scenes, to the volunteers that work tirelessly and with a smile on their face daily, to the people who donate, to our wonderful patrons, of course- we can’t wait to work hard together in 2013 to reach a brand new high in grant award money and support more organizations” says communications volunteer Chandler Case.
